The European Union‘s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Pedro Serrano, was a guest at this year’s Tynwald Day celebrations.
Mr Serrano reflected on his visit to the island in a new blog post on the European Union’s website.
He said: “Tynwald remains at the centre of political life of the marvellously green Isle of Man: caring for its citizens, receiving their demands and tending to their expectations.
“Its ‘three chamber’ system adds originality, and strengthens common understanding in advancing legislative processes.”

Mr Serrano saluted the fairies when crossing their bridge on his way to Douglas.
He says this “contributed, no doubt, to a most enjoyable stay, including long walks on the beach, that lead me to a Spanish galleon moored side by side to a Royal Navy vessel”.
He noted the island’s Viking past and said “it is no wonder that many of its children follow the steps of Manx artists such as Archibald Knox”.
Adding: “They travel afar in younger years and return afterwards to their wonderful island, a platform from which to continue contributing to the worlds beauty and prosperity.”
