Family Court Welfare Recommendations Underway

Jane Poole-Wilson MHK

The Department of Justice and Home Affairs has confirmed it has previously commissioned a review into the effectiveness of the Family Court Welfare Service in achieving positive outcomes for children.

In a written Tynwald answer, Minister Jane Poole‑Wilson said an independent review led by Lesley Walker, Chair of the Safeguarding Board, reported in 2022 and made a series of recommendations.

Progress on those actions has since been reported internally twice, first by the Head of Community Rehabilitation & Family Court Welfare, and later by external support brought in during 2024.

Most recommendations have been taken forward where they fall within the service’s control.

One outstanding recommendation, relating to improved digital and electronic record management, remains dependent on wider system upgrades beyond the service’s remit.
