The Manx National Farmers’ Union has called for stability following DEFA’s decision to seek a new Chair and Non-Executive Directors for Isle of Man Meats.
In a statement, the MNFU said it is not involved in any operational, financial, or restructuring discussions at the meat plant, stressing its priority remains fair, market‑equivalent pricing and timely payments for farmers.
The union warned that frequent changes at Isle of Man Meats in recent years have created “substantial turbulence” for producers, leaving them without clarity about the future.
Undermining Confidence
It urged government to ensure that farm businesses are not exposed to further disruption, saying ongoing uncertainty is undermining confidence and viability across the sector.
In a statement to Manx.News, MNFU said: “The MNFU is not involved in the operational matters, financial discussions, or proposed restructuring of the Board of IOM Meats Ltd. The MNFU has a firm focus on fair, market equivalent pricing for farmers, and the ability to book stock in and be paid within a reasonable timeframe.
“In recent years Manx agriculture has experienced substantial turbulence, including the frequent changes at Isle of Man Meats. Farmers have had to adapt to this with no clarity on what comes next.
“Agriculture needs stability more than ever, and we seek assurance that farm businesses will not be subject to further disruption and uncertainty which has been undermining business confidence and viability.”
