A dry but very windy start to the day today with outbreaks of rain developing through the morning, turning heavy at times, then clearing to showers later in the day.

The gale to severe gale force southwest wind, gusts of 50-60 mph, possibly 65 mph over higher ground and exposed coastal areas, will veer west-southwest in the afternoon and ease.

Showers turn wintry overnight into Friday, particularly over high ground, with strong to gale force winds.

Fairly bright tomorrow, with sunny intervals and just isolated showers, but still strong west to southwest winds and temperatures only around 7°C at best.
