The Manx National Farmers Union says government strategy has steered Manx farming into “very choppy waters”, accelerating decline across the sector.
It has now launched its 2026 manifesto, calling on the next administration to urgently reverse the trend.
The MNFU says reversing the decline “must become an urgent priority” for the next administration, and insists this requires “a much better understanding of Manx farming and food systems”.
The manifesto highlights the Union’s long standing role, noting it has represented the island’s farmers for more than 75 years, with members managing the majority of agricultural land.
It describes farming as a cornerstone of the island’s economy, culture and landscape, and warns that reduced market opportunities, price pressures and policy changes have left the sector vulnerable.
Key asks include support and investment, stronger food security and sovereignty, fair trading opportunities, and improved trade and market access, all aimed at restoring confidence and rebuilding domestic production.
The MNFU is inviting anyone standing for election to engage directly with the Union to “understand the challenge” facing Manx agriculture.
