Douglas North MHK John Wannenburgh has announced he will stand for re-election in this year’s general election.
First elected in 2021, he has been chair of the MUA since 2023 amongst his other roles.
Posting on his constituency page, he said: “It has been my privilege to serve the people of Douglas North as one of their Members of the Keys since 2021.
“Today I am pleased to declare myself as a candidate for Douglas North, in the forth-coming General Election in September.
“I will be making my way around the constituency soon, and hearing what matters most, and I look forward to seeing the many people who I have had the pleasure of representing, in the constituency I have called home, since 2003.
“I believe that the make-up of the next House of Keys will shape the face of the island for the next generation and beyond, and they will have to determine which the direction the island takes, whilst overcoming some significant challenges, including rising healthcare costs, immigration, budget deficit, energy and food security, renewables, connectivity and, not least of all, the economy.
“These are all huge and pressing matters (there are many others), and we will need experience with cool and calm heads as we navigate what will be an extremely challenging five year term.”
So far Hugo Yates has announced his intention to stand in the upcoming election.
Mr Wannenburgh’s constituency colleague David Ashford has yet to declare his intentions.
