A 54-year-old man who threatened to “take a hit out” on another man before going on to headbutt a police officer has been fined by magistrates.
Richard Cain of Chadwick Grove in Douglas was sentenced after he admitted making nuisance 999 calls and assaulting the officer.
Prosecutors said that on Thursday June 27 Cain was at home when he was told money from an online fundraiser set up in memory of his ex-wife had been used for pay for windows.
After drinking he rang 999 several times and told operators at the Emergency Services Joint Control Room that he would “take a hit out” on the other man and said he would be “dead by the end of the week”.
When officers attended his home he refused to answer the door, leaving them to force their way in and arrest Cain.
While at Police Headquarters he made several threats to officers before aiming a headbutt at an officer, landing what the court heard was a “glancing blow”.
A probation officer told the court Cain was someone who struggled with his mental health and had been “extremely upset” at the time of the incidents, which he accepted full responsibility for.
Both she and his advocate said Cain wanted to apologise to the officer and the court for his actions.
Fining him, magistrates said headbutting the officer was a “particularly nasty” incident.
Cain was ordered to pay £1,000 for assaulting the officer, as well as £100 for the 999 calls and ordered to pay £125 in court costs, which will be deducted from benefits.
