Firefighters prevented a shed fire from spreading to a nearby home in Greeba this afternoon.
Crews from Douglas and Peel stations were called to the house at around 3.50pm following reports of a structure fire.
On arrival, crews found a shed already alight and firefighters used high pressure hosereels to quickly extinguish the flames.
The fire is believed to have started after gusty winds caused a nearby garden waste burn to spread.
Crews remained at the scene for about an hour.
Station Officer Quirk issued a warning to anyone considering a garden bonfire: “Ensure you build bonfires, or use any garden incinerator bins well away from buildings, hedges, sheds and any combustible materials.”
He added: “Never leave a fire unattended, no matter how small and ensure it is fully extinguished.”
Other advice includes checking weather conditions, keeping a garden hose or water nearby, and burning only natural garden waste—not household rubbish, plastics or synthetic materials.
