Over the weekend crews from the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service were delayed in response to a fire due to the parking of vehicles in the local area.
The service is asking for the general public to ‘give consideration to the emergency services when leaving your vehicle’ to ensure its response isn’t impacted.
Two major appliances from Peel along with the Duty Officer were mobilised to a structure fire in the west of the island; which resulted in the rescuing of a dog.

Once in attendance the incident commander quickly deployed 4 BA wearers with high pressure hose reels to search for a dog within the property and to locate and fight the fire.
The fire was quickly extinguished and the search team located the missing dog who was brought to fresh air where its crews administered oxygen therapy using specialist equipment generously provided by Paws For Therapy Isle of Man.
The service have thanked the ManxSPCA who assisted with transferring the dog to its vet.
It added that fire appliances were delayed in their response to this incident by the parking of vehicles in the local area.
Delaying emergency services
This latest plea for drivers to be more considerate follows on from only last week where Douglas crews had been delayed by members of the public using its forecourt on Peel Road as a turning circle.
The emergency service have recently seen an influx of drivers using the forecourt of Douglas Fire Station as a turning circle.
The service says it has become an almost hourly occurrence and has unfortunately recently slowed a fire engine from being able to respond – on multiple occasions.
The service says it did put some “nice big signs up 2 years ago to try and stop this happening”.
It added that “besides the obvious hindering of our vehicles, what may look like a nice open forecourt is also a working area”.
Vehicles pulling in and turning puts the firefighters and mechanics at risk.
