Five Week Wait for Driving Tests

Learners drivers are waiting an average of five weeks for a test, according to figures released by the DoI.

The data was provided by the Minister for Infrastructure, Dr Michelle Haywood, in response to a question from Jason Moorhouse.

The figures show that in 2022, 2324 tests were taken and 1,069 candidates passed, resulting in a 46% pass rate.

In 2023, 2,585 tests were taken and 1,115 candidates passed, a pass rate of 43%. The following year, 2024, saw 2,287 tests taken with 985 candidates passing, also a 43% pass rate.

Providing more recent figures, the minister confirmed that up to the end of July, 1,681 tests were taken and 722 candidates were successful, maintaining a 43% pass rate.
