Fuel surcharge discussions, uncashed benefit cheques and the future of the Douglas horse trams are among the issues set to be raised in the House of Keys today.
Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse will open questioning by asking Treasury Minister Chris Thomas what discussions took place with the Steam Packet, the Department for Enterprise and other stakeholders before and after the introduction of the fuel surcharge.
Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper will seek clarification on whether all individuals with uncashed benefit cheques were contacted during the Social Security Division’s January exercise.
Douglas South MHK Sarah Maltby will ask both Treasury and Infrastructure Ministers for an update on the Horse Tramway capital funding request, while Mr Moorhouse will also press Infrastructure Minister Tim Crookall on when documentation on the Crossag Farm development will be circulated and what departmental discussions have taken place since January.
Further questions include the process used to select census questions, the number of children in 2025 who had not achieved basic English skills, and the impact of the island’s BSE risk classification divergence on routes to market.
Members will then move to the Second Reading of the Rating and Valuation (Amendment) Bill and the Verification of Entity Registration Bill, followed by clause consideration of the Financial Services (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill and the National Health Service Reform Bill.
The sitting will conclude with consideration of Legislative Council amendments to the Period Products (Free Provision) Bill 2025.
