The public service workforce has grown for another quarter, rising by 53.08 full‑time equivalent posts between January and March 2026, according to the latest workforce report.
The increase, a 0.67% rise, is largely driven by continued expansion within Manx Care, which added 20.4 FTE frontline and clinical roles during the period.
Across core Government Departments (excluding Manx Care), staffing rose from 4,425.56 FTE to 4,446.1 FTE, a net increase of 20.54 FTE.
More Workers
The largest growth came in Home Affairs, which added 19.56 FTE, reflecting recruitment in policing, anti‑money‑laundering investigations, cyber security and emergency services.
Enterprise also grew by 8.59 FTE, driven by low turnover and recruitment into previously approved roles, including new compliance posts ahead of the Island’s MONEYVAL assessment.
Other Departments saw small reductions. The Cabinet Office fell by 3.59 FTE, Infrastructure by 3.21 FTE, and Treasury by 2.09 FTE, with most changes attributed to retirements, resignations and internal movements rather than new cuts.
Manx Care’s increase, from 3,044.4 to 3,064.8 FTE, reflects ongoing investment in ambulance services, adult social work, emergency planning and clinical quality roles. The report notes that many new posts replace agency staff or bring contracted services in‑house.
The island’s total public service workforce now stands at 7,943.12 FTE, up from 7,890.04 FTE at the end of 2025. Historic data shows the workforce has grown by 557 FTE since 2023, with Manx Care accounting for the majority of that rise.
