The government holds over £1.8 billion in registered assets, with social housing making up the majority of its built properties, according to Chief Minister Alfred Cannan.
In response to a question from Douglas Central MHK Chris Thomas, Mr Cannan revealed that the government’s consolidated Fixed Asset Register includes 1,673 buildings, of which 1,246 are social housing.
A further 1,069 infrastructure assets—such as highways, bridges, and drainage systems—are also recorded.
The total value of these assets, as of 31 March 2024, is broken down as follows:
- Freehold Land & Buildings: £565.5 million
- Vehicles, Plant & Equipment: £215.1 million
- Infrastructure assets: £1.075 billion
- Investment Property: £339,000
Mr Cannan stated, “The information provided in this answer is taken from the underlying asset register used for Isle of Man Government Annual Financial Statements and Reports.”
He also directed the public to the audited accounts for further details.
