Growth in Healthcare Workforce

Manx Care has increased its substantive workforce by nearly 100 staff between 2021 and 2026, according to data released by the DHSC.

Responding to a written question from Speaker Juan Watterson, the minister Claire Christian, provided a grade-by-grade breakdown of Manx Care staff.

The figures show total headcount rose from 539 in 2021 to 557 in 2026. Full-time equivalent staff increased from 475.4 to 498.77 over the same period.

Ms Christian said: “The figures exclude bank, locum and agency workers and vacant positions.

“This is because bank and locum shifts may be undertaken by substantive staff and including these categories could lead to double counting.”

Notable increases include MPTC Band 5 staff rising from 296 to 336 headcount, and MPTC Band 7 from 238 to 309. Consultant headcount also grew from 70 to 93.

Ms Christian added: “Manx Care inherited a legacy vacancy gap and have undertaken permanent recruitment to close this gap, reduce bank and agency spend whilst adhering to safer staffing levels.”
