Hand in Your Guns

The Police have announced a firearms and weapons amnesty, running until February 2.

The initiative encourages the public to hand in unlicensed, illegal, or unwanted items, including firearms, ammunition, imitation guns and weapons like knuckle dusters or stun devices, without prosecution for possession at the point of surrender.

“During the amnesty period, individuals surrendering firearms or weapons will not face prosecution for illegal possession at the point of surrender and anonymity is permitted.

However, if an item is believed to have previously been used in a crime prosecution will still be considered.

Weapons can be handed in discreetly at police station front counters in Douglas, Ramsey, Peel, and Castletown. However, explosive devices, including grenades, must not be taken to Police stations.

Separately, Part 1 firearms certificate holders are reminded that renewal applications must be submitted by April 1.
