Haulage Costs Under Microscope in House of Keys

The impact of fuel prices on haulage and agricultural costs will be examined in the House of Keys.

Two MHKs have each tabled two questions on the issue for the sitting on November 10.

Ayre and Michael MHK Stephen Broad will ask Treasury Minister Michael Crowe what plans he has to “use the windfall VAT revenue as a result in the increase in road fuel prices to support businesses with mitigating the effect of those increases”.

He will also ask Crowe what assessment has been made of the “potential impact of fuel surcharges on the competitiveness of island road haulage and agriculture sector businesses, compared with UK counterparts”.

Meanwhile, Glenfaba and Peel MHK Katryna Baptist has tabled a question for Infrastructure Minister Jason Moorhouse, asking him whether there are plans “to assist the road haulage industry with the impact of rising fuel costs through a reduction in fuel duty”.

And she will ask Crowe how Treasury aims “to alleviate the effects on local businesses, including the road haulage and agricultural sectors, of rising fuel costs”.
