EDF has confirmed that the Heysham 1 nuclear power station will continue generating electricity until March 2028.
The announcement extends the station’s operational life by a further 12 months.
The decision follows a series of successful safety inspections and is expected to support energy reliability across the UK while preserving over 1,000 skilled jobs in Lancashire and nearby Teesside.
EDF has also announced that their station at Hartlepool will also see its operational life extended.
