Hundreds More Registered with GPs

The number of people registered with GPs on the island has grown by over 800 in the last three years.

Julie Edge (Onchan) asked for the figures from the DHSC in a written question.

On October 1 2022, there were 88,596 people registered at GPs, with that rising to 89,154 and 89,434 in each of the subsequent years.

A standout rise has been at the Ramsey West, which is the prison, where the number has climbed from 49 to 154, however this is due to the way inmates are registered and recorded being changed.

Some up, Some Down

While some surgeries, such as Kensington (9,607 to 9,795) and Finch Hill (7,083 to 7,201) have risen, the largest increases are at Castletown (4,207 to 4,537) and Southern (6,959 to 7,508).

However, the rise of patients registered at those clinics coincides with a drop at Ballasalla from 4,759 to 4,057.

Health Minster Clare Christian said: “As of September 2024, the Isle of Man’s population is approximately 86,200, up from 84,069 in the 2021 Census.

“However, the population figure often differs from the GP registrations figure due to factors such as temporary residents registering and unreported departures.”
