The chair of Ballaugh Commissioners says it’s a ‘very sad day’ as two, 250 year old, trees have been felled.
They both have Dutch Elm Disease, but plans are underway to replace them in the children’s play area.
Due to the disease, the local authority will be sending the timber to the government burn site to prevent it spreading further.
Steve Curphey says that the trees are ‘iconic’ and saw the first train into the village and the last train out of the village.
