The Isle of Man has come first in another travel study; this time Ronaldsway Airport has been named as the ‘most disrupted’ airport in the United Kingdom.
The UK travel company, Good Travel Management, released a list of the ten most-disrupted airports in Britain.
A recent study conducted by Good Travel Management investigated the rise in delayed and cancelled flights across UK airports.
It ranked the airports by average delay time and the number of flights cancelled.
Most disrupted airport in Britain
According to Good Travel Management, Isle of Man Airport has the highest volume of cancellations than any other airport, with 5.2% of all flights cancelled last year.
It also noted the issues with the shortage of air traffic controllers, it says ‘since August of 2023, the airport has been closing its runway for two morning breaks due to shortages of air traffic controllers, though the airport is expected to lift these closures by autumn’.
In second place is London Gatwick Airport, with an average delay of 33 minutes 37 seconds, almost 10 minutes higher than the national average of 24 minutes 6 seconds.
In third place is Bristol Airport, with an average wait of 31 minutes. Of the 26,372 flights that were delayed or cancelled last year, 6,573 were delayed by over an hour.
Isle of Man travel
This is not the first time the travel links to and from the island have been highlighted in similar research projects.
Earlier this year, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company was named by Which? as the worst domestic ferry service across the United Kingdom.
According to Which?’s survey, people have complained about ‘poor facilities, too many cancellations, and skyrocketing prices.’
