Manx apprentices delivered outstanding performances at the 2026 Pan‑Island Skills Test, securing six first‑place titles against competitors from Jersey and Guernsey.
The event, hosted by University College Isle of Man (UCM) during National Apprenticeship Week, brought together the top 36 apprentices from across the three islands for a day of timed, skills‑based challenges.
The competition was sponsored by Dandara, Haldane Fisher, Monument Tools, Buchanan & Pitts and Electrical Design Solutions, with support from Tilgear and Construction Isle of Man.
Pan-Island Skills Test
UCM apprentices dominated the results, with first‑place wins for James Smith (Brickwork), Jake Devereau (Carpentry & Joinery), Shantelle Thorpe (Electrical Installation), Ruby Kennedy (Land Management), Kieran Halsall (Motor Vehicle) and Treljah Norris (Painting & Decorating).
Charlie Hart from Highlands College took the top spot in Plumbing.
A further 15 apprentices from UCM, Highlands College and TGI Apprenticeships secured second and third places across the disciplines.
Sam Warren, Head of Faculty at UCM, said the standard on display was exceptional. “Their dedication, talent and professionalism were on full display, and it was inspiring to see such a high standard of work across all disciplines. Congratulations to all the winners and participants.”
The competition continues to underline the value of vocational training and the strong collaboration between the islands.
