Island Games Athletes in Good Form

Two of the Isle of Man’s Orkney-bound athletes were in good form in off-island events over the weekend.

Distance runner Corrin Leeming (Western AC) continues his comeback from a 12-week injury layoff with a second place finish in the Great Birmingham Run 10km race in a time of 30:48 on an undulating course.

Corrin reported on his Facebook page: “Far from what I know I am capable of, but considering four weeks ago I ran for the first time after 12 weeks out injured, I’m happy with that.

Corrin added: “No point tapering if you haven’t done any running!”

Good Form

Meanwhile Isle of Man based Chester University student Aimee Christian (Manx Harriers) was in action at the BUCS (British Universities) Championships at Sportcity in Manchester.

Aimee finished fifth in Heat 2 of the women’s 400 metres hurdles.

Martin Bullock reports: “It was a tough race for her, being drawn in lane 8 and in windy conditions.

“She clipped the first hurdle which obviously disrupted her rhythm, but recovered well to finish in 64.39 seconds, just outside her pb.

“These are the races where you learn about your event, and this is all practice for Orkney. That’s what really counts!”
