The Comis Hotel & Golf Resort has submitted plans to install a tunnel underneath the Ballacutchel Road.
Better known as the Mount Murray Back Road, it splits the golf course in two, requiring golfers to cross the road twice.
With plans to stage the 2029 Island Games golf at the course, this has accelerated the need for key infrastructure improvements.
The proposed underpass, with a clear internal cross-section of 2.5m by 2.5m, aims to provide a “direct, safe connection between the two halves of the course,” accommodating pedestrians, golf buggies, and maintenance machinery.
Mark Emmington, the project lead, stated: “The underpass will enhance the safety, cohesion and ultimately the quality of the golf course for our membership as it prepares to host international competition in 2029 and beyond.”
The Isle of Man Golf Union has designated Comis as the official golf hub for the 2029 Games, prompting upgrades to ensure “operational efficiency, user safety and course quality.”
