It was announced this week that the bid from the Isle of Man to host the 2025 British Centurions 100-mile Walk in Castletown has been unsuccessful.
The 2025 race will be the 100th staging of a 100-mile walk by the British Centurions.
The Isle of Man hosted the event in Castletown in 2019, and it was a superb 24 hours with fine weather and a high-class field which included the cream of ultra-distance walkers from throughout the British Isles and further afield.

That proved beyond doubt that the Isle of Man, and Castletown in particular with the backdrop of the castle, is a wonderful base for an event of this kind.
The committee of Steve Taylor, Robbie Callister, Jock Waddington, Adrian Cowin and Chris Cale deserve a huge amount of credit for their efforts in trying to bring the event back to the Isle of Man in 2025.
I hope that all the background work that has been done to put the bid together will not go to waste, and can form the basis of a further bid in the coming years.
