The Isle of Man will not introduce the EU’s Artificial Intelligence Act during the current administration.
Chief Minister Alf Cannan confirmed the government’s thinking in response to a question from Juan Watterson SHK.
Mr Cannan stated: “The government is aware of the European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Act but there are no plans to introduce legislation to adopt elements from this EU Regulation during this administration.”
He cited the 2025/2026 Update to Our Island Plan, approved in March, as outlining the Government’s legislative priorities.

Despite this, the Isle of Man is developing its own national AI strategy.
Mr Cannan explained: “The government is considering a comprehensive national AI strategy for the Isle of Man, drawing inspiration from successful frameworks implemented by comparable and best-in-class nations.”
The strategy will focus on the island’s unique needs while considering international best practices, including aspects of the EU AI Act “where relevant.”
The Chief Minister added: “The priority is to establish a framework that enhances our competitive advantages, supports innovation, and protects our citizens’ interests.”
A full strategy is expected to be presented to Tynwald in due course.
