A badly injured ginger cat named Sandy is fighting for survival after being rescued by the MSPCA earlier this week.
The charity was alerted after a concerned resident in Sandygate spotted the cat dragging his back legs, terrified and in pain.
The man feared Sandy had been hit by a car but did not attempt to catch him, avoiding further distress. The MSPCA’s cattery team found Sandy hidden deep in a hedge, barely moving.
With no microchip or collar, he had no obvious owner.
They took Sandy to see a vet straight away and he was sedated and examined.
However, the MSPCA said the news was “heartbreaking” with poor Sandy having suffered a shattered pelvis with multiple fractures and was suffering from shock.
It said: “He was immediately put on a drip and given pain relief to keep him comfortable.”
Purrs
Despite his suffering, Sandy remains gentle: “He purrs when humans are near and rests his head softly into a hand.”
Vets believe the one-year-old has a good prognosis with urgent orthopaedic surgery, estimated to cost between £3,000 and £4,000, without which it says “Sandy won’t make it”.
