Isle of Man Samaritans volunteers will mark Brew Monday on January 19, highlighting research that shows one in five people never talk about their feelings.
A further 20% only open up once a month, showing the need to tackle stigma around emotional wellbeing.
Brew Monday is Samaritans’ annual campaign designed to dispel the myth of ‘Blue Monday’ by focusing on the power of human connection.
Brew Monday
The charity is encouraging people across the Island to put the kettle on, share a cuppa and start meaningful conversations with friends, family or colleagues who may be struggling.
Isle of Man Samaritans Branch Director Deana Douglas said the charity answers a call every 10 seconds and sees first-hand how life-changing a single conversation can be. She added that Brew Monday is about checking in with loved ones and turning small talk into big talk, as even a simple chat could save a life.
Volunteers will be based at Tesco on Victoria Road in Douglas from 12pm to 6pm, offering information and a friendly chat.
Businesses are also being encouraged to support the campaign and look out for employees who may find January particularly tough.
