Kirrie Jenkins said she remains optimistic despite being unsuccessful in her bid to become Chief Minister, with Chris Thomas elected by Members instead.
He was voted in by the House of Keys this morning, 16-6 in the first vote and then 22-2 in the confirmatory vote.
Speaking after the vote, Jenkins said all 24 MHKs entered the House of Keys with enthusiasm and a desire to do their best for the people of the Isle of Man.
Asked whether she would accept a role within the Council of Ministers if offered one, Jenkins said that decision now rests with Thomas as he assembles his administration.
She said she believes he wants to put the best people in the best roles and take a “blended approach” to government involving both new and experienced members.
Looking ahead, Jenkins said her priority remains focused on the economy, adding that she hopes to work with colleagues across the House of Keys to drive change following the message sent by voters at last month’s general election.
