Mental Health Benches Unveiled in Port St Mary

Two new benches dedicated to mental health charities Ed Space and Isle Listen have been unveiled in Port St Mary.

The benches, painted in the charities’ colours, were commissioned by Port St Mary Commissioners as part of efforts to keep conversations about mental health at the forefront of the community.

They overlook Chapel Bay and are situated at a popular stopping point for both residents and visitors.

Ed Space welcomed the initiative, saying it was “honestly blown away” to see one of the benches painted in its colours.

The charity said the benches are “so much more than something beautiful to look at” and can become “a place to stop, take five minutes, have a conversation, listen, or simply sit quietly and take some time for yourself.”

Meanwhile, Isle Listen said it was “delighted” to be chosen for a mindfulness bench on the promenade.

The charity said it hoped the bench would encourage people to “take a break from their day” and focus on the world around them, adding that it hoped the installation would lead to “many positive mindful moments.”

Commissioners said the project was the idea of foreman Martin Booth and his team, praising the initiative for supporting two worthwhile causes while adding colour to the promenade.
