Three of the island’s threatre production companies have been nominated for the 2025 NODA North West District 2 Awards.
Centre Stage Productions, Douglas Choral Union and The Manx Operatic Society have all been nominated for their amazing shows last year.
Centre Stage’s School of Rock show has been nominated for 15 awards, Manx Operatic’s OLIVER! for 12 and DCU for nine.
With Joey Wylde taking on the iconic Jack Black role, the Centre Stage production of Andrew Llord-Webbers musical of the cult film was staged in October.
He has been nominated for best leading male, with Lauren Molyneux also nomaited of best leading female for her performance as. Rosalie Mullins.
It has also been nominated for: Best Musical; Best Staging; Best Ensemble; Best Director: David Dawson; Best Musical Director: Steve Daykin; Best Choreographer: Alice Smith; Best Supporting Male: Alex Duncan as Ned Schneebly; Best Supporting Female: Lauren Newson as Patty Di Marco; Best Male Youth in an Adult production: Sean Cannan as Billy; Best Female Youth in an Adult production: Eloise Barnes as Katie; Best Female Youth in an Adult production: Cristl Stitt as Summer; Best Comedy Performance: Alex Duncan as Ned Schneebly and District 2 Rising Star Award: Cristl Stitt.
OLIVER!
Manx Operatice brought the timeless classic to the stage in March last year, with many of its leading lights nominated.
Victoria Corkill, who played Nancy, has been nominated for best leading female, with Mark Doughtery (Fagin) also nominated as best leading male.
For his role as Fagin Jonathan Sleight and Chris Maybury’s take on Mr Bumble they have both been nominated for Best Supporting Male while Nikki Openshaw is up for Best Supporting Female Character in a Musical.
There are also nominations for William Cowley (Artful Dodger) for Best Male Character Youth while Chris Sullivan is up for Best Musical Direction of a Musical, Jeremy Tustin & Marilyn Mawdsley are up for Best Direction of a Musical and Jeremy and Tracey McCann are up for Best Choreography.
The show is also up for best musical best ensemble and best staging of a musical.
Evita
Douglas Choral Union brought another of Lloyd-Webber’s iconic shows to the Gaiety last year as they took on Evita.
Playing the joint lead role was Leah Carter, who has been nominated for Best Leading Female Character, while Matt Creer has been nominated for Best Leading Male Character in a Musical for his role as Che.
Evie Skillicorn’s brilliant performance as the mistress has also earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Female Character.
Steve Daykin is on the list for Best Musical Director while Scott St Martyn is nominated for Best Choreographer of a Musical and Best Director of a Musical.
The show itself is also up for Best Staging and Best Show with the cast also up for Best Ensemble.

The awards night is in Blackpool in February, good luck to everyone, I saw two of these shows (they were brilliant!) and heard amazing things about the other!
