Loch Promenade Crossing Repairs to Begin Later This Month

Repairs to a number of pedestrian crossings on Douglas’ Loch Promenade are set to begin later this month with work expected to take around two weeks.

The Department of Infrastructure said repairs will be carried out on block-paved crossings near Victoria Street and Regent Street after areas of paving sank and some bricks became damaged.

During the first week, the crossing closest to Victoria Street will be repaired while traffic is managed using temporary three-way traffic lights.

Pedestrians will be directed to the zebra crossing at Howard Street while work is taking place.

In the second week, contractors will repair the currently closed crossing opposite Villiers Square before moving on to the Regent Street crossing.

The Department said damaged paving will be replaced with asphalt as an interim safety measure while plans are developed for a longer-term programme to replace promenade crossings with natural granite paving.

Two crossings on Harris Promenade, near the Villa Marina, are also scheduled to be upgraded later in the current financial year.

The work will begin on Monday, October 19.
