The Isle of Man Women’s Cricket Team has left its mark on the international stage after reaching the Continental Cup final and a team member picking up a world record.
In a campaign to be proud of, the team narrowly missed out on the trophy after losing to Turkey in the final.
But during the tournament Jo Hicks broke the record for the oldest player to take five wickets in an international match for the first time, while Lucy Barnett, who was named the tournament’s MVP, also became the ninth youngest player to score an international century, at the age of 19.
Lucy (pictured above), who is also the first Isle of Man player to notch up an T20 international century, has now moved up to joint 67th in the international T20I rankings.
Results:
Romania 127-2 (Izzy Clarke 2-24), Isle of Man IOM 128-7 (Lucy Barnett 71 not out). IOM won by 3 wickets.
Greece 52 all out (Jo Hicks 5-10), Isle of Man 56-1. IOM won by nine wickets.
Isle of Man 161-6 (Lucy Barnett 123 not out), Norway 137-7 (Izzy Clarke 3-9). IOM won by 24 runs.
Final: Isle of Man IOM 117-8 (Lucy Barnett 59), Turkey 118-5 (Jo Hicks 2-10, Lucy Barnett 2-22). Turkey won by five wickets.
The competition saw the Isle of Man team have six debutants: Amelia Griffiths, Izzy Clarke, Chloe Dillon, Maisie Skillan, Anna Wilson and Grace Cottier. The team had seven players under the age of 17.
The record that Jo Hicks had stood for nearly a century! She was 51 years and 173 days when she recorded her five-fer.
