Maintenance work carried out at Sulby Road Bridge will give it a fresh lease of life.
The work was completed as part of the Department of Infrastructure’s ongoing maintenance programme.
A DoI spokesperson said: “The current Sulby Bridge was constructed in 1922-23, by the then Highway Board, replacing an earlier stone hump-backed bridge that had previously served the village.
“The recent works will help preserve this structure and extend its service life.”
The work was carried out by Gallas Foundry in the run up to the Manx Grand Prix.
To facilitate the work while protecting the surrounding environment, a fully enclosed scaffold platform was erected beneath the bridge. This ensured that no debris, paint residue or abrasive materials could enter the river during the refurbishment process.
Highway Services is responsible for the maintenance of 209 road bridges of varying sizes and types across the island.
