Contractors will begin to install 20mph speed limit signs in Douglas and Onchan next week.
This initiative forms part of the DoI’s controversial large-scale expansion of 20mph speed limits.
The decision to implement 20mph limits follows a unanimous Tynwald motion in October 2020 supporting a reduction in speed limits in urban areas, which was reaffirmed in 2023.
Before finalising the policy, the DoI undertook a public consultation to gather feedback from residents and businesses which it says highlighted community support for measures that enhance safety and quality of life, particularly in densely populated areas and near schools.
It has told Manx.News it cannot release this consultation feedback.
Consultations have also taken place in the rest of the island to inform decisions about which roads’ speed limits will change elsewhere.
Details of those proposals will be published in coming months.
