A man who claimed he was unfairly dismissed from his father’s business has lost his case at the Employment and Equality Tribunal.
Tolani Emmanuel Okunola, 26, alleged he was sacked without notice from Oris de Master’s Snack Shack on Douglas Promenade on 14 July 2025.
But the tribunal panel found he had resigned after an angry confrontation with his father, Oluwafemi Oris Okunola, the previous day.
The panel heard Mr Okunola had secretly accessed his father’s phone and discovered discussions about his future employment.
Mrs Adrienn Okunola-Beres, who runs the partnership with her husband, testified that Mr Okunola called her saying: “he would never come to work anymore”.
The tribunal listened to a secret recording of the following morning’s meeting and concluded Mr Okunola was not seeking his job back but demanding payment.
Chairman Douglas Stewart said: “The Tribunal was satisfied that Mr Okunola arrived expecting another confrontation or other useful evidence to be captured.”
While the unfair dismissal claim failed, the tribunal awarded Mr Okunola £941.72 because the Respondent had failed to provide appropriate payslips.
Mrs Okunola-Beres admitted not providing them weekly, saying this had been “with the consent of Mr Okunola”.
