An island-based company has submitted an application to establish the first specialist licensed facility for the import and distribution of regulated medicinal cannabis.
Medicinal cannabis was legalised on the Isle of Man in late 2018, leading to discussions on a regulated Good Manufacturing Practice import system.
While several businesses have explored the opportunity over the years, no applicant has met the necessary criteria.
That position may now be set to change.
Medicinal Imports
MannCann, an Isle of Man–based business with a facility already under development, has formally submitted an application to the Gambling Supervision Commission (GSC).
If approved, the licence would allow the company to establish the island’s first specialist facility capable of importing regulated medicinal cannabis products from approved international suppliers.
The company says its focus is firmly on patients, with an emphasis on responsibly sourced, high-quality products that meet strict safety and regulatory standards.
MannCann aims to ensure consistency of supply for patients who rely on medicinal cannabis treatments, while operating within a robust compliance framework.
Application Process
The application process is ongoing, and MannCann will continue to work closely with regulators in the coming weeks and months.
If successful, the project is expected to create new employment opportunities and further position the Isle of Man within the global medicinal cannabis landscape.
