Well known Manx spots such as Douglas Head, the NSC and Laser Blast, among others, have undergone an 18-plus makeover on social media platform Snapchat.
The app’s “maps” feature allows users to see where friends are, track how much of a place they have explored, and find local landmarks. Place names appear on the maps, indicating hotspots such as popular restaurants, activities and landmarks. Yesterday, however, a slew of Douglas area locations were plagued by innuendo.
Laser Blast had the first word of its name replaced by “Finger”, Douglas Head has had the words ‘Give Me’ added, and you can probably guess where, while the National Sports Centre did not escape, either.
The likes of Wetherspoons, The Cat With No Tail pub, and Governor’s Hill Play Area have also seen their names modified.
While most changes remain light-hearted, if largely crass, Quarterbridge and the Gaiety Theatre have been altered to racist and homophobic titles.
The general public cannot tweak place names directly, but suggested edits can be made to the company by reporting an issue. It is unclear as to what process is used to vet potential changes, or how they are applied.
