Three medal-winning athletes from the Island Games were back in action last weekend at the England U20 and Senior Track & Field Championships.
The championships were held at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
Regan Corrin (Manx Harriers) continued his relentless gathering of medals, following his haul of five in Orkney with the silver medal in the U20 Men’s long jump.
England Championships
Regan’s best jump was a wind-legal 7.28 metres, just one centimetre short of his best jump in Orkney.
The bronze medallist also recorded the same distance, but his jump was well over the legal wind speed limit.
Regan also contested the U20 Men’s high jump and came desperately close to the bronze medal with a best clearance of 1.99 metres.
The bronze medallist recorded the same height but beat Regan on countback.
Magnificent Progress
Sam Perry (Northern AC) continued his magnificent progress in the U20 men’s 800 metres.
He finished fourth in Heat 2, in a time of 1:52.64, the second- fastest time he has run, just over half-a-second down on his time in the final in Orkney.
The standard was such that even that time wasn’t enough to reach the final but it was another excellent performance in a top-class field.
It’s also worth noting that Isle of Man Commonwealth Youth Games representative Jack Kinrade of Shrewsbury AC finished fifth in Heat 2 in a time of 1:52.70.
Consistent Season
Island Games bronze medallist Aimee Christian (Manx Harriers) continued her excellent season of 400 metres hurdling with another very solid performance.
She finished sixth in Heat 1 of the combined U23/Senior races in a time of 1:04.44, consolidating a very consistent season in this event.
