Men Seen Running From Fire

The Fire and Rescue Service have warned people against starting fires after three men were seen running from a small fire in the south of the island.

Castletown Town Commissioners has also said it believe someone tried to start a fire in Poulsom Park over the weekend.

At 7pm on Friday, a major appliance from Castletown and Malew Station responded to reports of a small outside fire in a field adjacent to Arbory Road, Castletown.

On arrival crews discovered some books and magazines on fire and received information that three males had been seen running from the area.

The Fire Service said: “Malicious actions such as these not only tie up resources needlessly but also inevitably lead to damage to peoples property and can quickly spread out of control.

“We will always try and gather as much information as we can at these incidents and work with our colleagues in The Isle of Man Constabulary to support any investigations.”

The local authority said this warning was a “timely message”.

It said: “An attempt also appears to have been made to start a fire in Poulsom Park over the weekend. Please report any suspicious activity to help address and prevent this concerning trend.”

In recent weeks someone set fire to the toilets by Castletown harbour, which resulted in them being closed for a period.
