MHK Seeks Impact Assessment on Minimum Wage Increase

Onchan MHK Julie Edge will ask the Treasury Minister to publish impact assessments on the recently approved minimum wage increase.

In the House of Keys next week, Ms Edge will request details on the expected effects of the 9.9% rise on employment, hours worked, youth employment, and the cost to taxpayers of any associated support schemes.

Ms Edge will also seek details from the Treasury Minister on the total estimated cost of any support packages intended to accompany the rise in April.

She wishes to know how these measures will be funded, and when full details will be published.

The question follows concerns from businesses about the financial impact of the minimum wage increase and whether government assistance will be provided to help offset rising costs.

MHKs will sit on Tuesday (January 13) next week at 10am.
