MHK Thanks Departing CEO

An MHK has thanked outgoing Manx Care Chief Executive Teresa Cope for her dedication, while calling for a stronger board structure to improve future leadership.

Ms Cope announced she will step down from the role she has held since 2021.

Rob Callister acknowledged the pressure she has faced.

He said: “Many of us will have seen the announcement this morning that the Chief Executive of Manx Care, Teresa Cope, will be stepping down from her role in the near future.”

Commitment

The Onchan MHK praised her commitment, adding: “As Chief Executive, Teresa has been under immense pressure from the outset, often facing sustained public criticism, despite her full commitment, resilience, and dedication to public service.”

He highlighted her responsiveness, saying: “As an MHK, I can say that Teresa has personally responded to hundreds of pieces of correspondence I have sent her over the past five years on behalf of constituents. On many occasions, she replied late at night, early in the morning, and over weekends.”

Looking ahead, he called for a more accountable board: “There is a strong case for a politically appointed Chair and Vice-Chair who are fully accountable to Tynwald, and more importantly to the people of the Isle of Man.”
