A freedom of information request has revealed the nationality breakdown of people appointed to roles across the government and Statutory Boards over the past 12 months.
The figures are based on anonymised equal‑opportunities data submitted by candidates, and cover the period 5 May 2025 to 5 May 2026 and include all appointment types.
A total of 2,444 appointments were made during the year. Of these, 902 candidates did not complete the optional equal‑opportunities section, meaning the data reflects the 1,542 who did.
- 83% Manx or British (1,281 appointments: 635 Manx, 646 British)
- 17% other nationalities (261 appointments)
The government said the Isle of Man Public Service is committed to an inclusive recruitment approach and directed applicants to its Equality, Diversity and Inclusion principles.
It also noted that recruitment is subject to the Control of Employment Act 2014 and the Isle of Man Immigration Act 1971, which require employers to prioritise Isle of Man workers or those with settled status, limiting the ability to appoint candidates who would need a work permit or visa.
