Isle of Man resident Doug Barrowman has issued a new statement claiming he and his wife are being “hung out to dry” to distract from UK government “incompetence”.
The husband of Michelle Mone has launched a scathing attack on officials in a statement published on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday.
The Tory peer stands to benefit from its £60m in profits that have been placed into a trust by her husband.
Mr Barrowman said he and his family have been “treated as a punchbag” for the last three years.
The 58-year-old maintains his innocence in the PPE Medpro scandal, which saw his company receive £200 million in contracts during the coronavirus pandemic, but £122 million of equipment they provided was deemed not fit for purpose by the UK Government.
He said goods were provided at “competitive prices” following a “transparent process”.
Mone admits to lying
In November, Michelle Mone admitted lying to journalists when she denied having any involvement in the company.
“We’ve done a lot of good, but if we were to say anything that we have done that we are sorry for, and that’s … We should have told the press straight up, straight away, nothing to hide … I was just protecting my family. And again, I’m sorry for that, but I wasn’t trying to pull the wool over anyone’s eyes. No one.”

The National Crime Agency (NCA) has been investigating their role in the contract, and Mone is suspected of conspiracy to defraud, fraud by false representation and bribery.
Mone denies all the allegations and insists she has done nothing wrong.
In December, the couple spoke out for the first time in a video paid for by PPE Medpro. An interview was conducted with Mark Williams Thomas.
Torrent of online abuse
In a fresh statement released on Monday, Mr Barrowman said: “My family and I have been treated as a punchbag by the media for the past 3 years.”
“We have received death threats and a constant torrent of online and other abuse. This cannot continue and the British public need to know the facts.”
A DHSC in the UK spokesman said: “We do not comment on ongoing legal cases.”
