The former Infrastructure Minister and departmental members were not consulted over the appointment of the interim airport director.
In today’s House of Keys sitting, Middle MHK Stu Peters raised how neither he as DoI member with responsibility for the airport, nor the former minister Tim Crookall were consulted over the appointment of the interim airport director.
Mr Peter told members that neither of them “were consulted or even told about the appointment”.
When the concern on the “ridiculous and egregious oversight” with senior DoI officers, Mr Crookall and Mr Peters were told it was a “civil service appointment and not the business of politicians to interfere with that process”.
Kept in the Dark
In response to Mr Peters, the DoI Minister Dr Michelle Haywood said: “I can’t account for how the department was operating during the member’s time in the department. However, it is not common for politicians to be made aware of any appointments below those of Chief Officer.”
The above came to light following a question from Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse.
Mr Moorhouse asked the DoI Minister, “what ministerial or departmental oversight is in place over employment decisions affecting the Airport?”
