The Health Minister has told MHKs she received assurances that serious incident procedures were followed following online allegations about patient safety at Nobles Hospital.
Claire Christian was responding to questions about a Facebook post last month which claimed there had been “unexpected deaths” and raised concerns about staffing at the emergency department.
Ms Christian said the department met with Manx Care leaders on the Monday morning following the post and requested a written report, which has now been reviewed.
“Every patient is assessed through a recognised triage system by trained staff and prioritised according to clinical need, with ongoing review while they wait,” she said.
The minister confirmed that the serious incidents policy had been triggered, adding: “Assurance was given to me in the department.
“I obviously can’t speak about individual patients and the circumstances around that, but the serious incidents policy did kick in and those were under investigation internally, and we have seen that review, and we are assessing it.”
Onchan member Rob Callister pressed the minister on whether she had apologised without knowing the full facts, following emails sent by Ms Christian about the matter.
“I sent those apology letters out. It was exceptionally important that we address and we make we gave confidence to those people who do come forward that there is a safe, secure environment for to do so, and we wanted to give that assurance, and that’s what those emails were about,” she responded.
