MLC Steps Down from DfE to Focus on DEFA Work

An MLC has stepped down as political member for the Department for Enterprise to devote more time to her responsibilities within the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.

Tanya August‑Phillips MLC, who has held roles in both departments alongside a substantial parliamentary workload, joined DfE in March 2025 with specific responsibility for Finance Isle of Man.

Over the past year she has worked closely on the department’s legislative programme and will continue to support that work in the months ahead.

DfE Departure

Her departure comes as DfE reviews its agency model, including structures and business operations.

During her time on the board, the department says Mrs August‑Phillips has pushed for a more cohesive marketing approach and stronger collaboration between agencies and stakeholders to improve business outcomes.

Reflecting on her decision, she said she had valued working with the minister, political colleagues, officers and the Finance Isle of Man board.

“At this time, DEFA’s legislative programme, and other matters in that department, require attention,” she said. “However, I do look forward to continuing to support DfE’s legislative programme until purdah.”

Enterprise Minister Tim Johnston thanked her for her contribution, particularly in relation to Finance Isle of Man and wider legislative matters.

“I look forward to continuing to work with her on DfE’s legislative programme,” he said.
