Michelle Mone and Doug Barrowman have accused the UK’s Covid inquiry of an “establishment cover-up”.

The island residents have criticised the inquiry’s decision to hear evidence relating to her in private.

The couple have claimed they were the targets of a “politically motivated witch hunt” after chair Baroness Hallett, refused their application to be made “core participants”.

PPE Medpro, a firm led by Mr Barrowman, was awarded government contracts worth more than £200m after Baroness Mone recommended it to ministers.

Delivered

Baronness Mone insists the company did nothing wrong and “fulfilled all its contracts to specification and delivered on time”.

She said: “A public inquiry should be about truth. Instead, this process is rigged- held in secret, controlled by those who fear the truth, with a
predetermined outcome.

“As soon as we learned of this outrageous ruling, we immediately applied for Core Participant status-only to be denied twice, proving once again that this process is nothing more than a sham designed to protect the guilty.

“This is not justice. This is a political vendetta driven by corruption, cowardice, and deception.”

The couple have never been charged with a criminal offence relating to PPE Medro, but they have been investigated by the National Crime Agency since 2021, which included a raid on Knox House in Douglas, which is now owned by a UK based newspaper group.
