Fans of romantic cup ties and shock results were left bitterly disappointed this weekend as the team most likely to progress to the next round of the ECAP FA Cup did.
As we reported yesterday, Old Boys were brushed aside by Corinthians 1-7.
In Saturday’s other games, St Georges put their league form to the back of their minds as they beat Castletown 1-4, while fellow relegation candidates Marown were thumped 9-0 by Union Mills.
Elsewhere five star Foxdale breezed past Douglas Royal 0-5, Ramsey beat Michael 7-1 and defending champions Rushen began their defence with a 2-3 win way at St John’s.
In the other games, Onchan went down 2-7 at home to Ayre, while a big win also came for Governor’s Athletic as they put Malew to the sword 8-0 at Noble’s Park to head into the next round.
Draw
Following Saturday’s games, the draw for the next round was made and it served up some tasty ties, not least with Corinthians being handed a trip to Ayre, ensuring at least one of the early favourites will be heading out early.
League leaders Peel will face Union Mills, Laxey will host St Georges, there’s an all Division Two tie as Pulrose welcome Colby, while Douglas and Douglas face a short trip to St Mary’s.
Governor’s reward for their win over Malew is a visit from Premier League side Foxdale, while holders Rushen face Braddan.
The tie of the round is a mouth watering Ramsey derby as RYCOB will host near neighbours Ramsey.
Those games are to be played on February 1.
League
In the only first team league games to played on Saturday, leaders Peel beat Laxey 3-4 in a highly entertaining game at Glen Road while RYCOB and Braddan played out a 1-1 draw up in Ramsey.
FC Isle of Man also suffered early year disappointment, losing 0-2 at home to Glossop North End.
