The Department for Enterprise has confirmed it did not undertake a separate, specific impact assessment into how the recent minimum wage increase would affect hospitality, retail and the wider economy.
The confirmation came in response to a Tynwald question from John Wannenburgh, who asked if such an assessment had been done and would be published.
In his answer, Tim Johnston said: ““In bringing forward proposals in respect of the Minimum Wage, there is a statutory requirement for the Department and Treasury to consult with, and consider and recommendations made by, the Minimum Wage Committee.”
He added that during 2025, the department conducted a “comprehensive programme of engagement with stakeholders”, including surveys, focus groups, and meetings with business representatives and unions.
The Committee’s recommendation was published online and laid before Tynwald and it did call for government not to implement its now confirmed 9.9% increase.
