Motorists are being urged to take extreme care as widespread icy patches have formed on many roads across the island.
The Police have advised drivers to allow extra time for their journeys, noting that motorcycles are experiencing significant difficulties in the conditions.
A police spokesperson said: “Many of our roads have icy patches this morning, and this is likely to be the case over the next few days. Please take extra care and allow extra time for your journey.”
The Creg Ny Baa Back Road has been highlighted as particularly hazardous for riders with Police suggesting that it is avoided by 2-wheeled traffic.”
Gritting
While the Department of Infrastructure’s gritting teams are actively treating routes, the police cautioned that this offers limited protection.
Partners at Isle of Man Department of Infrastructure continue to treat our roads, however this is only salt and is susceptible to washing away on wet or thawing roads. Care should still be exercised even on primary routes.
People are being advised to consider the necessity of travel and to select the most appropriate means of transport where options are available.
